(learn Python programming basics - You can create your own account or play without an account. If you play without an account, you can't save progress.
To get extra credit, you must advance past the dungeon and enter the forest. Take a screen shot of the last level you passed or of the forest. Your screen shot should show your level and XP.
To take a screenshot, hit the PRT+SCR button and then open PowerPoint (or Word) and hit CTRL+V (paste). Print this out and write your name on it and put it in my basket.
Unfortunately, the help videos require youtube, so you will not be able to watch them, but you should still be able to get non-video help if you get stuck (look for blue popup helps on the bottom of the screen).
This is so you can learn to distinguish between what information on the internet (or in books, magazines, etc.) is real and what might be fake or inaccurate information . This will come in handy when you do research for classes especially. Today, your assignment is to pick one of the websites below and evaluate whether or not this website is a good website to use as a source for a research project you may get in a science, English or history class.
1. Download this handout and READ it BEFORE Doing THE ASSIGNMENT!!!
1st of all ... Please make sure your journal entries are caught up andprint journal entries 6-10 on a single page (6 slides to a page) and hand them in.Help each other to do this if you forgot how to change it to six slides per page in the print settings ... You can find the journal entries below.
Using the Scratch software (on the desktop on your computer) OR using Scratch online (http://scratch.mit.edu), teach the cat how to draw a square.
(B6, you started this last time -- B5, we didn't get to this yet).
Start with the Green Flag block in the Events section ...
Play around with the blocks in the Motion section (blue blocks) and the blocks in the Pen section (green blocks) and see if you can get the cat to draw a square. The sides should probably be at least 150 "steps" long each. If you want to choose a different sprite other than the cat, you can, but using the cat is just fine (and it's ok if he turns upside down when he is drawing).
To clear the screen, click on the clear block in the pen section (or consider adding it to your program at the beginning so it clears the screen each time you click on the start block).
Remember a computer only does exactly what you tell it to!
When you are done, "screenshot" your blocks and put them in your journal as part of journal entry #11. If your neighbor is struggling, help them (but don't give them all the answers).
Finally, when you are done, do one of the activities below ... the Code combat is more challenging than Star Wars, so pick whichever one you are most comfortable with.
(learn Python programming basics - a little more difficult than Hour of Code) - You can create your own account or play without an account. If you play without an account, you can't save progress.
To get full credit, you must advance past the dungeon and enter the forest. Take a screen shot of the last level you passed or of the forest. Your screen shot should show your level and XP. (See example below ).
2. Instead of Code combat, you can choose to do the new Code.org Star Wars Activities if you prefer. Here is the link. You need to do the "JavaScript" option. https://code.org/starwars
You need to take a screen shot showing that you completed all 15 levels. (all indicator lights should be green ... in the below example, only #1 is green ...)

Go to the Culturally Situated Design Tools site. Select one of the topics that appeals to you the most. Research the background of the tool and the mathematical connections. In class, we did the Navajo Rug Weaving tool.
Go through the tutorial on how to create with the tool. Then create your own virtual design.
Take a screen shot of your design and save it as an image and save it to your journal as entry #9.
Ideas for your final game project: You can follow these tutorials, but find a way to customize some of the aspect of the game on your own: Scratch tutorials

Write in complete sentences or you will not get full credit!!! 2.Example=> My laundry can be sorted or unsorted. If my laundry is not sorted, it will be hard for me to find socks to wear or I may end up with my little brother’s shirt instead of my own.
Today, you will choose one of the following activities to do. Make sure you read what you have to do to get credit for today.
1. Code.org (Hour of Code) - Get your login information from Mr. Wood (or substitute). - Login Links: B5, B8

We talked about artificial intelligence. Journal entry #9 is: What is intelligence? Are Computers Intelligent? Why or why not?
Then, we watched a few videos on some of the "intelligent computers" like Deep Blue who beat the World Chess Champion in 1997 and Watson who beat the two best Jeopardy players of all time. They are interesting if you have access to youtube. You wouldn't have to watch all of these videos, but if you watch a few, you'll learn about what we learned about ... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kf49AAi6FeU&list=PLEB3FD7F6911027E4 These are the ones about Watson. I would recommend you watch a few of them.
Then, Journal entry #10 is as follows:
In your journals, write one item for each of the following categories. Be sure it’s something you know a lot about and can answer questions about. The item you think of should also be something that most people would know about, but not a proper noun or a specific person, place, or thing.
1. Animal
2. Vegetable
3. Mineral
4. Classroom Object
5. Disney or Harry Potter Character
6. One or more from the following categories: Movies, TV, Music, Earth, or Sports
Go to 20q.net and answer the questions for each item. Select “Think in American.”
Keep track of how many questions it takes for 20q.net to guess your item correctly.
You are welcome to continue playing beyond the 6 items until all groups have finished.
In your journal, answer the following question: How “intelligent” is 20q.net?
